Plovdiv or Sofia?
From Plovdiv the drive is about 1:45 hours and the price is about half of the price from Sofia. From Sofia Airport you drive first on the Trakia motorway to Plovdiv and then up into the mountains, about 3:30 hours in total. Sofia has more flights, so many guests still land there. Both work; the table above shows the difference.
The mountain road
From Plovdiv the road goes south through Asenovgrad and then along the river into the Rhodopes, past Bachkovo Monastery and Chepelare, up to Pamporovo. It is a road with many curves. If someone in your group gets car-sick, tell the driver; a short stop is no problem.
Skis and groups
A sedan takes up to 3 passengers with skis. For families of four with skis, or snowboards and big bags, the minivan is better. Ski groups and schools take a minibus or a bus; with about 100 buses we can move big groups on the same day.
Smolyan and the Rhodopes in summer
