Sofia is the closest and has the most flights in winter, so for most guests it is the easiest choice. Plovdiv is a good option if your flight goes there; the road over the mountains takes a little longer. Thessaloniki works well for guests from countries with good flights to Greece; the drive crosses the Greek–Bulgarian border at Kulata – Promachonas. Burgas is far, and makes sense only if you combine the sea and the mountains.
The road from Sofia Airport
The driver takes the Struma motorway south past Pernik, then turns east at Simitli and climbs through the Predela pass to Razlog and Bansko. In snow the mountain part is slower, so on a winter Saturday plan a bit more time than the 2:15 hours.
Skis, boards and luggage
Ski bags are long, and this decides the car. A sedan takes up to 3 passengers with skis. For four skiers, snowboards or many bags we send a minivan: it takes up to 6 passengers depending on the luggage, or fewer passengers with a very large boot. For ski groups of 7 or 8 a minibus is the simplest. Tell us the number of ski bags when you book.
Groups and ski schools
With over 200 sedans, about 50 minivans and about 100 buses we can move a whole group on the same day, also when several flights land at different times. Send us the flight list and we plan one car per flight or a bus for everyone.
Going home
The way back from Bansko costs the same. For a morning flight from Sofia we usually suggest leaving Bansko about four and a half hours before departure; on a snowy day a little earlier. The driver collects you at the hotel.
From Bansko to the rest of the Balkans
Some guests combine a ski week with a few days elsewhere: Plovdiv's old town, Sofia, or the Greek coast near Thessaloniki. Bansko is close to the Greek border, so going on to Thessaloniki after skiing is easy. Book each leg with us and we plan the times so that you are never in a hurry. For the trip to Greece bring the passport or ID card you need to enter the country.
