Varna and Constanta are the two big cities of the western Black Sea, only a short drive apart, yet there is no simple direct bus or train between them. Most trips by public transport mean a change at the border or in Mangalia and a lot of waiting with your bags. In a private car you leave at the time you choose, the driver takes the coast road north and stops at the door of your hotel, apartment or the port.

The road from Varna to Constanta
- Varna to Durankulak: the car leaves Varna to the north and follows the main road through Dobrudzha, past the turn-offs for Balchik, Kavarna and Shabla, to the last Bulgarian village before the border.
- Durankulak – Vama Veche: the border crossing on the coast. Since Bulgaria and Romania joined Schengen, cars usually drive through without stopping.
- Vama Veche to Constanta: the road goes north along the Romanian coast, past Mangalia, the resorts of Saturn and Neptun, and Eforie, and comes into Constanta from the south. Mamaia, the long beach resort, starts at the northern edge of the city.
If the coast road is busy, the driver can also cross further inland at Kardam – Negru Voda and come into Constanta on the main road from the west. You do not need to choose: the dispatcher and the driver decide on the day.
From Burgas the car first drives up the coast to Varna and then takes the same road; prices and details are also on our Burgas to Constanta page. From Plovdiv and Sofia the trip is a long day: east across Bulgaria towards Shumen and then north-east through Dobrudzha to the border.
Crossing the border into Romania
- No regular passport control: keep your passport or ID card with you, not in the boot, because police can still stop cars for a check.
- The same time zone: Romania and Bulgaria use the same clock, so there is no hour to add or take away.
- Different money: Bulgaria uses the euro, Romania the leu. You pay us in euro, to the driver; for coffee on the way a bank card works almost everywhere.
- Summer traffic, not the border, sets the time: in July and August the coast road on the Romanian side is slow on Friday and Sunday afternoons. Leave in the morning and the trip stays close to the 2:30 h in the table.
Pickup in Bulgaria and arrival in Constanta
- From an address or hotel in Varna: the driver comes to the door at the agreed time and waits 15 minutes for free.
- From Varna Airport: the driver meets you in the arrivals hall, with a name sign if you like. We follow your flight, so if it lands late the waiting at the airport is free for as long as it takes. The airport pickup is priced with your quote.

- In Constanta: we stop at your hotel, apartment, the old town, the port or any address you give us. Mamaia, Mangalia and Constanta Airport are priced on request.

Both countries are in the Schengen area since 2025, so there is normally no border control at Durankulak – Vama Veche. Spot checks are still possible, so every passenger, children too, should carry a valid passport or ID card.
Can you pick us up at Varna Airport or in Golden Sands?
Yes. The pricelist line starts in Varna city; for a pickup at Varna Airport, Golden Sands, Albena or another resort the dispatcher gives you the exact price for the whole car before you book.
Do you also drive from Constanta back to Varna?
Yes. Our pricelists are for both directions between the two cities. Tell us the pickup address in Constanta or Mamaia and the time, and we send the car across the border to you.
Do I pay before the trip?
No. There is no prepayment. You book by phone, chat or the price request form and pay the driver at the end of the trip.
